The act is designed to make homes safer from wildfires while increasing access to insurance. The act would fund mitigation efforts, including:
- Fire-safe roofing
- Defensible space within the first five feet of a home, also known as “zone 0”
- Community-level wildfire protection strategies
The initiative is intended to build on Safer from Wildfires, which lays out 10 wildfire safety actions.
The California Safe Homes Act will be heard next in the Assembly Appropriations Committee.
